GT5 still expected this year

1000 cars expected for Polyphony’s PS3 racer, GT5 aimed for Q4 2009

Posted on Aug 24, 2009 – 2:45pm EST
Gran Turismo 5 will feature some 1,000 cars and will be releasing in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to details fleetingly revealed on developer Polyphony Digital’s official website, says IGN.

Sony’s flagship racer made an unexpected playable appearance at last week’s Gamescom, flaunting its new – if currently limited – damage model for the first time. GTPlanet picked up details from the game’s official site which have since been removed, and make for eye-watering reading. 1,000 cars make the cut, with electric cars faithfully represented, while 20 courses are available, drivable in 60 different layouts.

The details were confirmed by leaflets handed out at last week’s Gamescom – also picked up by GTPlanet – which list a Q4 2009 release date. Gran Turismo 5 impressed on its debut last week, although its debut was in a somewhat truncated form, with the damage model not yet fully implemented and only a single car and track available.

Expect to hear more – much, much more – at next month’s Tokyo Game Show.
